"How much would just one hour of downtime due to equipment failure cost you?"

Moorehead Electric Company, Inc.'s Power Quality Division offers a complete range of preventive and diagnostic services designed to help keep your facility running smoothly. Thermographic imaging, commonly known as "infrared scanning", is one such service. It is a cost effective method to limit or prevent unscheduled shutdowns and power outages at your facility.

How Does it Work?

Infrared is a proven non-intrusive form of examining electrical systems and components. An infrared scan displays non-visible heat radiation in a visible fashion. As connections loosen or equipment wears, greater heat is radiated at these problem areas or "hot spots". Excessive friction, loose connections, clogged radiator fins on transformers, defective or leaking steam traps, surfaces containing moisture and other problems are readily seen without having to shut your equipment down for an inspection in most cases. A thermographic image "sees" the changes in temperature and displays them as different colors. This allows for maintenance or repair of a problem before your equipment breaks down!

Benefits of Infrared Scanning:

  • Reduces energy costs
  • Reduces or eliminates emergency repair costs and downtime
  • Can extend equipment life through proper maintenance
  • Can be used to forecast equipment breakdowns
  • Allows critical repair parts to be on hand for maintenance shutdowns
  • Can be performed when equipment is operating
  • Increases Safety
  • Analyzes and records equipment wear over time

Helps Maintain

  • Electrical Systems
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Steam Piping
  • Refractories and Insulating Material Systems
  • Buildings and Roofs

Is it Expensive?

The average industrial or healthcare facility can usually be inspected in a single working day. Even large facilities can usually be inspected in less than a week.

Often the cost of an entire inspection is fully repaid by identifying just one critical component with a previously unsuspected problem.
